I'm honored to present my lecture-recital as part of
Creating A New Israeli Musical Identity - One Note at a Time
Celebrate the history of Israel through the life and music of one person: Verdina Shlonsky, the first Israeli female composer. Galuth roots, the revival of the Hebrew language, search for new Israeli identity, kol isha (a woman’s voice) - all major attributes of Israeli life are blended in her art.
The presentation will include reading poems written by prominent Israeli poets Avraham Shlonsky, Haim Nahman Bialik, Yehudi Amihai, Rachel, Leah Goldberg, and Zelda; introduction to the art of Naomi Shemer, “the first lady of Hebrew song and poetry”, and Shoshana Damari, recognized as the “queen of Hebrew music”; and performance of Shlonsky’s Five Sketches, Pages from the Diary, Album for the Young and 13 Miniatures.
